Hebrew Language Course and Electives

Hebrew Language Course

We offer a Hebrew language course at select locations for students in 4th grade and above. Through conversation, games, text, projects and music, students learn to read, write and speak Hebrew, according to their level. In order to support the iterative process that learning a foreign language requires, our Hebrew language classes are offered as a year-long program only, and include about 20 minutes of homework 2x per week. We work individually with each family to place students in the Hebrew class that is best for them, based on their level.

This is an excellent class for students who want to focus on Hebrew language acquisition, and/or for students who are seeking greater Hebrew proficiency as they approach B’nai Mitzvah.

During the 2025-26 school year, we are offering Hebrew language at the following sites:

  • Sundays at BAX (Park Slope) from 1:00 - 2:00 PM

  • Tuesdays at Hannah Senesh (Carroll Gardens) from 5:00 - 6:00 PM

  • Tuesdays at JCC Harlem from 4:00 - 5:00 PM

Please see our Class Schedule for more details.

Jewish Theater Elective (4th - 6th grade)

New for Fall 2025, we are excited to introduce a brand new Theater elective at Fig Tree! In this weekly class, we will explore our Jewish culture through theater games and improv. Throughout the trimester we will also rehearse an original play that we will present at the end of the trimester. This elective is a great fit for students who appreciate hands-on, active learning - or those who love to be in the spotlight. Historically, theater has been a cornerstone of Jewish life, and we can't wait to enliven this tradition with our cast of Fig Tree students.

The Jewish Theater class is open to students in 4th through 6th grade, and will take place on Sundays at BAX (Park Slope) from 1:00 - 2:00 PM. Sign up by trimester, or for the year at a lower per-trimester rate.
