Frequently Asked Questions
When does registration open?
For Fall 2025: Registration for just Fall 2025 trimester or for the 2025-26 school year opens on June 1, 2025. (Returning families have early access to registration prior to that date.) At this time, Core (PreK-5th grade) families are welcome to register for Fall trimester, or for the full school year. Our Sixth grade, Hebrew language, and B’nai Mitzvah programs are yearlong courses.
For Winter 2025-26: Registration opens on November 1, 2025 for Core (PreK-5th grade) families.
For Spring 2026: Registration opens on February 1, 2026 for Core (PreK-5th grade) families.
How do I register my child?
There are two ways:
You can click the "register here" button above, which will take you to Active, our registration system. From there, you can use the search bar on the left to find the class you want, and add it to cart. Or:
Start at our Class Schedule page, which has individual registration links for each class. Click the link of the class you want, and it will take you directly to the registration page for that class in the Active system. (From there, add the class you want to your cart.) For siblings or to select multiple classes for one student, you can return to the class schedule page to add subsequent registrations to the cart, and all classes will appear together at checkout.
Will there be a spot for my child?
In recent years, Fig Tree has experienced the "good problem" of significant increased interest from families. We've responded by expanding to new neighborhoods, and adding classes – but the fact remains: we will not have enough spots for every student who wants to enroll. Our best advice is to register your child(ren) as early as possible in the summer, and maintain flexibility when it comes to selecting a class day/ site/ time. Note that returning families have early access to registration, so some classes will be full prior to June 1.
What should I do if the class I want to register for is now full?
If your top choice class is now full, we strongly encourage you to register for your second (or third) choice class while it is still available. You can also add your child to the waitlist of the first choice class, and we will reach out to you over the summer if a spot opens up. If you're able to make an alternate class time work for the beginning of the school year, we can often move students mid-year.
What is the likelihood of my waitlisted child getting a spot?
This depends on the class and location where your child is waitlisted. In some popular classes (especially in our Brooklyn locations), the likelihood of a spot opening up is very low. In other locations, we do see movement over the summer or in early fall.
I want to register my child for a class, but they may have conflicting soccer games/ middle school play rehearsal/ weekends out-of-town/ [insert busy NYC kid activity here]. What is your make-up class policy, if my student needs to miss classes?
We have a very flexible make-up class policy. If your student misses a class for any reason, they are welcome to come to a different class [in the same curricular week] for a make-up. Hopefully this relieves some of the stress of picking a class day now.
We have registered our child(ren)! What happens next?
Welcome to Fig Tree 2025-26! Families with students in Pre-K - 6th grade: you will hear from us in August, when we email the Family Handbook, our Curriculum Overview (with field trip schedule for Sixth grade), and our Events Calendar for the year. At that time, we’ll also share information about Fall Orientation and our High Holidays gatherings. B'nai Mitzvah families: you'll hear from us within a week after your registration, when we will send info about the coming year, along with links to our curated B'nai Mitzvah service resources.
