Kulam Program for LGBTQIA+ Youth
Welcome to Fig Tree's Kulam (Hebrew for "everyone") program!
About
At a time when many LGBTQIA+ youth are navigating uncertainty and looking for community, we are proud to offer two Kulam cohorts: one for middle school students (6th - 8th grade) and one for high school students (9th - 12th). Through Jewish learning, meaningful conversations, and friendship, Kulam provides a space where LGBTQIA+ teens across NYC can feel supported, connected, and celebrated. Our own Rabbi Ami Weintraub, who is trans and queer, leads Kulam, drawing on their extensive experience developing and running prior LGBTQ+ Jewish youth groups.
Logistics
Kulam gatherings take place monthly on Wednesday evenings during the school year. Out of respect for the privacy of our students, detailed program logistics are shared directly with registered families.
Eligibility
LGBTQIA+ students in 6th - 8th grade (Middle School session) or 9th - 12th grade (High School session) are invited to attend. We welcome questioning and allied youth to join us as well. No prior Jewish education or experience is required.
Tuition
Registration for Kulam is available on a sliding scale, from $180 - $720 per year. Pay what works best for your family.
Registration for 2026-27
Current Fig Tree families have the registration link in their inbox (and on the Parent Portal). New families: please email Rabbi Ami to express interest and get the link.
