Job Description: Teacher (3's/4's, K/ 1st, 2nd/ 3rd, or 4th/ 5th)

Fig Tree teachers are part time, teaching anywhere from 2 - 8 one-hour classes per week. Fig Tree curriculum is standardized, so teachers are not expected to lesson plan- however personal and creative interpretation of the material by the teacher is highly encouraged.

Fig Tree teachers are also invited to contribute their own unique curriculum content at the conclusion of each semester; cash and/ or equity bonuses are awarded if Fig Tree adopts content proposed by teachers.

This ain't your bubbe's Hebrew school. Fig Tree teachers look at Jewish education in a new way. The right candidates will be creative and and resourceful, yet will be able to confidently lead a class of excited learners. Candidates should possess an innate love of learning, and- above all- a rich knowledge of Jewish religion, culture, and heritage. Teachers applying to teach children in kindergarten and above must have a working fluency in Hebrew.

Experience working with pre-school and/ or elementary aged children is required. Teaching experience- religious or otherwise- a big plus. BA or MA in relevant field strongly preferred. All potential candidates subject to background check.

Teachers are paid an extremely competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience.

During the 2015-16 school year, all classes will be held in Brooklyn. Beginning in 2016, there will be opportunities in other cities. If you're a fabulous teacher who happens to not live in Brooklyn, yet for whom Fig Tree strikes a chord, let's talk! We'd like to know you.
